um/pulse Calculation (Newbie Guide)

Postby nephertiti » Sat Jan 12, 2013 3:10 am

Hi,

so I am trying to setup my LO DSP and there is Distance(um)/pulse setting. How can i calculate it?

I use 400 rev stepper , 1/16 microstep , MXL Belt , 20 tooth pulley (using metric system btw)

Thank you.

There is a calculator here,,,

You need to convert to um from inches though

That is a basic conversion to metric and step and pulse are the same thing.

If resolution = 1000 step/inch the inverse (1/x) = 0.001 inches/step.

1 inch = 25400um (https://www.google.com/search?q=1+inch+ ... tnG=Search)

0.001 * 25400 = 25.4 um/pulse

...and look at the next line on the calculator page ;)
