Dongle Death and The Rise of Open Alternatives

Well today's been a disaster.

Having fought tooth and nail for 2 days to get Lasercut 5.3 to work in a new laptop (the fannying about you wouldn't believe)... I finally got the thing to run, then the laptop fell over and broke the dongle.

And not for the first time.

So - now that the shouting and chair-throwing is out of the way, can anyone recommend :

- a board/system
- that (preferably) runs on open-source software
- that can be dropped into a standard 80w chinese 6040 machine
- that can do rastar engraving as well as cut?

Any advice gratefully received.

Nick

PS: Hi from New Zealand. Am now down the pub of a sunday attempting to settle nerves. Fred The Blues Guy is playing guitar. He's pretty good. Better than he sounds. Certainly better than I sound.
