Azteeg X3

Postby bdring » Sun May 20, 2012 11:28 pm

Roy stopped by and had a couple Azteeg X3 controllers.

These are an upgrade from the X1. The basic highlights are this (best as I can recall).

It uses the same chip as the Mega 256 now.

It has five Driver slots

It has a series of shields. These do some cool things. One shield has five drivers. One shield has a 12V-24V boost converter. This allows you to use a cheap 12V PC power supply, but run the drivers at 24V.

He left the board with me so I will post some pictures soon. I was unable to hook up with him before I left, so I still have it. I need to figure out how to get it back to him.

Bart,

Nice meeting you and the rest of the shapeoko guys. Thanks for holding on to the Azteeg X3. I came back to the fair a little late in the afternoon Sunday and you guys have left already. The unit you have is literally fresh off the oven, no tests or power up has been done on it yet, it went straight to the show :-)

Do you mind shipping it to me? I'll email you my address and I'll paypal you the shipping cost. I will let you know once its tested and ready for action.

Again, thanks and nice meeting you guys. Also met Mike K and the other mike with his ordish build.

any pictures?

I think this could become an expensive hobby, always updating to the newest hardware and extruders :)

Here are some pictures. It looks really clean because the back side of the shield has a nice vinyl decal.

I believe this is the 24V step up shield (un-populated).

Very Nice!

Will it be available with the same connectors as the X1, or is it strictly for screw terminals?

It can take 0.1 spacing crimp style connectors like the X1(Vertical or Right angle).

Any news on the X3? I'm shopping for a controller for my second Hadron (yes, before finishing my first Hadron  ) and the X3 looks very nice. I particularly like the idea of screw terminals that could also be pulled off to swap boards, etc. The ease of no-crimp installation with screw terminals, and the maintainability of unplugging connector blocks. If not, regular screw terminals would be OK. The 24V boost converter for the stepper motor drives is a great idea too.
Apparently, I didn't build that! :-)

The X3 is in its final stages of testing and tweaking of the PCB layout. So far everything looks good to go for a pre-order by next week and availability by end of July/early Aug.

Here's a quick video of the X3 in action made by Michael (mhensen). Quote from Michael "Too bad its mounted on the back of the ordbot" :D
