Pla pellets avaliable

Postby bobt » Tue Mar 12, 2013 7:34 pm

Pla pellets are now available at: http://osprintingllc.com/
I don't own the place but am just a very happy customer.

2 pounds for $7.00 is still cheaper that $39.00 for 1Kg of filament. After the 7th spool the extruder has paid for itself.

Looks like you've made some nice improvements/simplifications Bob. Is your version available anywhere for download?

Bob
What are you using for the heater?? I see in the list of parts for a hot glue gun so I would guess that is what Hugh used.
I bought 10 of the 12 v cartridge heaters to try on one that I want to build.

@REdington -
The heater band is: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/se ... sst=subset
This is a 900 degree 100watt 120 volt heater. I am using it with a ebay PID unit just like the rest of the guys making these do.

It should be enough to heat the pipe up hot enough.

Also Hugh used the hot glue gun to glue things together not as a pipe heater.

@canadianavenger -
I am working on a BOM for this and when I finish I will publish it here.

Bob

Thanks and will be looking forward to your BOM. I was going to order from Hugh's BOM but I'll wait for your now.
I have most of it already but the electronics and heater.

Rodney - One of the differences between Hugh's design and mine is that I am using 3/4" pipe. And an auger that is 13/16" in size. Also the motor that I found is a 10rpm motor like some of the other projects. So I should put out more filament that most as they run at the rate of 4"-10" per minute. Not very fast and so they don't process a lot of pellets per hour. The 2 liter bottles will hold about 1300 grams of pellets in them. I am going to cut the bottom off of mine and create some caps for them so that I can load about 1Kg at a shot and have about 8 hours of run time so that I can run them 24 hours a day for a while. After I have built up some stock then run it about 1 a week to keep up.

@bobt: Awesome! Looking forward to it. Your design looks much cleaner and more refined than Lyman's with a lot fewer parts. And more importantly, fewer custom parts! [at least from outward appearances] I'm curious to see how your BOM cost stacks up to Hugh's. [not to take away from Hugh's accomplishments, he did a great job with the initial concept, and crossing the challenge line first -- but like most things, next generation is better than the previous generation]

I like your idea of the larger bore. Thanks for taking the time to post what you have so far.
