Stratasys buys Makerbot

It’s official: Two of the biggest names in 3D printing are joining forces.
Minneapolis-based Stratasys plans to acquire Brooklyn-based MakerBot in a $403 million merger. If all goes as planned, MakerBot will be a separate subsidiary to Stratasys, giving Stratasys access to the desktop 3D market more or less dominated by MakerBot, while giving MakerBot access to Stratasys’s cutting-edge R&D.

Time to move away from Thingiverse? :)

Are there good options outside thingiverse? github has a nice STL viewer, but it certainly isn't good for exploring and finding things. I don't know that it's time to move, but it certainly seems like a potentially good opportunity for a competitor in the thingiverse space to push ahead if there is some way to make money doing that.
