Print quality question

Postby endurance » Thu Apr 24, 2014 7:51 pm

Hello,

Just some background on my printer first before I go into my issue. I have a Hadron running a Azteeg X3 with SureStepr SD8825 drivers. A Helios heatbed and a QUBD MBE extruder running Barts modified feeder parts and a MK7 filament gear.

I am running into an issue with my printer where the prints start off "OK" but progressively seem to deteriorate. It seems like the z axis might not be moving up at the rate it needs to and the nozzle is digging into the part. See the attached picture for what I'm talking about.

Could this be a setup issue with slic3r? I am using the default settings.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Small parts aren't cooling well enough between layers and are still soft. Next layer is dragging them out of place.

Is it ABS or PLA? In both cases, with small parts, as TLHarrell said, you need a fan to keep layers cool.

I concur with the heat/cooling that's been pointed out. I think you might want to also double-check your steps/mm for extrusion. It looks like you might be over-extruding a bit. One of the pictures shows a drag mark across the top of a print.

Ahhh.....this turned out to be my issue. Thank you!

I had it set at a higher extrusion rate. Seems that a lot of my issues were just compounded by assuming a value somewhere along the line...

I know this is an old post, but I just recently figured this out and wanted to spell it out clearly to others who might have missed this.

An MK7 drive gear has about 7% more circumference than a standard QUBD drive gear. Thus was the reason for my ~7% over extrusion...
